As you can see by this diagram, the upper part of our House of Tools represents what we want to achieve with our audience, whether it’s one person, 10, or 100. All of my students and clients agree that they want to come across as likable, trustworthy, and connected.
The square part of the house represents how we maintain a strong stable triangle. We do this by using an effective and harmonious combination body language, voice, words, and image.
The result of using these seven tools effectively is that we create a sense of “us-ness.” “Us-ness” means that when I say something to the audience, I notice their response and then I respond to their response. They respond to my response. Now we have a relationship to which all participants contribute. This is the state to which you aspire: the state of “us-ness.”
Of course, the minute we enroll our audience in participating, all kinds of things can happen that we must notice and sometimes manage. That’s another story for which I hope you will stay tuned.
